You can shorten a URL using online services like:

        • Bitly (bitly.com)
        • list itemTinyURL (tinyurl.com)
        • list itemGoogle URL Shortener (previously available, now migrated to Firebase Dynamic Links)
        • list itemRebrandly (rebrandly.com)
These services typically require you to paste the original URL, and they provide a shortened version that redirects to the original link. Some platforms also allow you to customize the short URL or track clicks for analytics.

        Thanks!

Choose a URL Shortener: Pick a tool that turns long URLs into shorter, more manageable versions. Some popular options include Bitly, TinyURL, or Google URL Shortener.

Copy Your Long URL: Highlight the long URL you want to shorten, right-click it, and select "Copy."

Go to the URL Shortener: Open a new tab in your browser, paste the URL of the shortener tool in the address bar, and hit enter.

Paste Your Long URL: Once the shortener website is open, look for a text box where you can paste your long URL. Right-click the box and select "Paste."

Shorten It: There should be a button that says something like “Shorten URL” or “Make Shorter.” Click it.

Copy and Use Your Shortened URL: After a moment, the shortener will give you a new, shorter URL. Copy this new URL and use it wherever you need.

That's it! Now you have a shorter URL that's easier to manage and share.

                  Hi @laurentjb

To shorten a URL, follow these steps:

Visit a URL shortening service like Bitly, TinyURL, or Rebrandly.
Paste the long URL into the designated field on the site.
                  Click the "Shorten" button.
Copy the shortened URL provided by the service.
That's it! You now have a shorter, more manageable link to share.

Right-click on any page or link and choose "Shorten this page with…" to get a shortened link.

                        2. Self-Hosted URL Shorteners:
If you want more control and branding, consider setting up your URL shortener with tools like YOURLS or Polr. These require some technical knowledge to install on your server.

                        3. API Integration:
If you need to shorten URLs programmatically, many of these services provide APIs. You can integrate them into your workflow using code or automation tools like Zapier.

@laurentjb URL shorteners like Bitly, TinyURL, and Rebrandly can condense long web addresses into shorter, more manageable links. Simply copy and paste the long URL into the shortener's field and click "Shorten." This is especially useful for sharing links on social media or in emails. However, exercise caution when clicking on shortened links from unknown sources, as they could lead to malicious websites.

@laurentjb Long URLs are not that much of a problem -- it's typically a warning sign in case they are not formatted properly.

If your URLs are already getting inbound links & ranking/receiving traffic from search engines, you should keep them as is & think about optimizing your URL structure in the future.

                                              I hope that helps!

Unsolved Strange "?offset" URL found with content crawl issues

                                                crawl error url issue

I recently recieved a slew of content crawl issues via Moz for URL's that I have never seen before For example:
                                                Standard URL: https://skilldirector.com/news,
Newly identified URL: https://skilldirector.com/news?offset=1469542207800&category=Competency+Management). Does anyone know where the URL comes from and how to fix it?

Looking for suggestion on the percentage of chance our ranking will be negatively affected and by how much? Also what everyones recommendation is if we should make this switch or not touch the urls. Why am I being deducted crawls if MOZ keeps telling me that it can't crawl my site?

                                                Domain added to the url

Hi, I am having a problem with my Wordpress site http://www.food-and-garden. It seems the domain www.food-and-garden.com is added to the url, for example http://www.food-and-garden.com/recipe-items/blini-lumpfish-roe/www.food-and-garden.com Right now I have 249 404 errors. That's a lot! I found  a Q&A similar to this, and as far as I understand, it has to do with relative links. I quess somewhere on my site there is href="www.food-and-garden.com" instead of href="http://www.food-and-garden.com" My question is, how do I find the broken link? Thank you!
